Good Huh Remains in Old Kentucky Home with New Owners Bennie and Cheryllee Sargent

Oklahoma City isn’t exactly the mid-point between Georgetown, Kentucky, and Hastings, Minnesota. But it was the site of the AQHA World Championships and the World Show Sale, and OKC was the place where Bennie and Cheryllee Sargent made a decision about AQHA Champion stallion Good Huh.

The Sargents stood Good Huh for several years for Kevin McGrath of Hastings, Minnesota. McGrath had decided to get out of the stallion business to focus on his mares and consigned Good Huh to the 2011 World Show Sale. Bennie Sargent had campaigned Good Huh for McGrath Quarter Horses, LLC, and achieved Good Huh’s AQHA Championship together with several all-around titles.

Finally able to sit down and talk, away from their busy lives, the Sargents and McGraths compared notes on Good Huh’s foals. Each had some foals they were really proud of which made the decision about whether to sell Baxter much more difficult. But the difficulty was removed when the Sargents and McGrath agreed the best thing for Good Huh the stallion and “Baxter” the horse was for him to return home to Georgetown, Kentucky — only with new owners, Bennie and Cheryllee Sargent.

“I was so thrilled we were able to work out a sale for Baxter,” said McGrath. “Bennie and Cheryllee Sargent have done so much for Baxter by making him an AQHA Champion and giving him a great home. Baxter is going to the right home with the right owners.”

“I’m so happy with my Baxter babies and I’m so pleased I can continue to participate in making him a sire. Good Huh hasn’t had the best opportunity as a stallion and I think his best shot is to continue with Bennie and Cheryllee,” said McGrath. “The day after the sale I went to Texas and saw two of my Good Huhs under saddle and it reinforced my belief in him as a sire.”

In addition to his AQHA Championship, Good Huh has more than 100 western pleasure points, placed in the top 10 at the World Show in 2-year-old western pleasure, and won almost $20,000.

“I have great respect for Good Huh and I am confident in the Kentucky Breeders’ Incentive Fund. I believe the future looks bright for the stallion and I pleased that he will continue to be a part of our breeding program” said AQHA Professional Horseman Bennie Sargent. “We appreciate the opportunity to purchase Baxter and we look forward to showing his foals.” said Cheryllee Sargent.
