Salsa and Silver Heat Up The Day at the APHA World Show

Salsa was on the menu for the APHA World Show’s exhibitor reception, sponsored by the Paint Horse Journal Wednesday evening, but Salsa – and Silver – also heated up the arena in the day’s world show classes.

VS Roll Call, whose barn name is Salsa, and Brad Ost (shown at right and below) were named world champions and won the NSBA bronze in Green Western Pleasure Wednesday afternoon, and the duo came back to win the Two Year Old Western Pleasure during the first class of the evening performances.

The mare is by Zippos Sensation and out of the great mare Vital Signs Are Good, is owned by Joe and Karen Moran. “I decided to show her in the bridle rather than the hackamore for the Green, and she did really well,” Ost said. “She was really good.”

Ost, who had worked with Salsa’s dam at Highpoint Performance Horses, sees a lot of her famous mother in the mare. “She really does remind me a lot of ‘Lucy,’” Ost said. “She likes her job. Her ears are always forward and she has that same flat leg and head. She’s a great mare.”

Salsa has finished her classes at the APHA World Show, and will get a well-deserved break, while Ost moves on to compete in several classes at the AQHA World Championship Show in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

“After some time off, we’re going to teach Salsa lead changes and see how she likes that,” Ost said. “She’ll be showing in Three Year Old Open events (with Ost) and Non-Pro classes (with Theresa Moran) next year too.”

The Two Year Old Western Pleasure also held a Southern Belle Breeders division, which was won by Mike Hachtel and A Jellybean Impulse, who was showin for Debi and Loren East. Hachtel and Jellybean finished as reserve APHA and NSBA champions in the class.
