DeGraff February Charity Promotion – Horses for Heroes

Indian ArtifactsJoin DeGraff Stables, Inc. in support of their selected charity for February 2011!

DeGraff has chosen to donate half of the Futurity booking fees collected to a program named “Horses For Heroes”.  Locally, “Horses For Heroes” is under the umbrella of CKRH; Central Kentucky Riding for Hope, an organization located at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington that provides equine assisted activities for both children and adults.  “Horses For Heroes” is in its pilot phase and is being implemented around the country by approved NARHA, North American Riding for the Handicapped Association facilities.  Each location operates the “Horses For Heroes” a bit differently.

In central Kentucky, CKRH has collaborated with the two Lexington VA Hospitals to provide services for veterans; specifically to treat PTSD – post traumatic stress disorder.  We understand that other “Horses For Heroes” programs around the country may make additional services available that extend to the families of our servicemen while they are away from home.  We encourage anyone interested to contact Joan Wilcoxen, the CKRH Volunteer Coordinator at [email protected] for information on the CKRH program or to see if she may be able to help you find a chapter of “Horses For Heroes” in your area!  We challenge you to get involved!

NARHA, a federally-registered 501(c3) nonprofit, was formed in 1969 as the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association to promote equine-assisted activities and therapies (EAAT) for individuals with special needs. With over 3,500 certified instructors and 800 member centers around the globe, more than 6,500 NARHA members help more than 42,000 children and adults with physical, mental and emotional challenges find strength and independence through the power of the horse each year. In addition to therapeutic riding, their centers offer a number of therapeutic equine-related activities, including hippotherapy, equine-facilitated mental health, driving, interactive vaulting, competition, ground work and stable management.

DeGraff Stables couldn’t make these donations possible without the support of their stallion owners!  They wish to thank Seabreeze Pleasure Horses, Ironwood Acres and the HBF Iron Man Partnership who, along with the many other owners around the country, donate breedings to the many futurity program that help fund the show prizes. Mare owners who purchase these reduced rate breedings are additionally appreciated for their participation as the offspring are able to accumulate valuable earnings.

To participate in the DeGraff Stables, Inc. Charity Program, find a list of eligible futurities for our world-class stallion line-up including:  DGS IndyGo, DGS Vestastic, Frosty the Goodbar (AQHA/ARHA), HBF Iron Man (AQHA/APHA), Hes A Cool Hotrod (AQHA/APHA), Hot Lopin Sensation (APHA), Indian Artifacts (AQHA/AWR) and MDR Impulsive (AQHA/APHA) on their website at www.DeGraffStables.com.  Make your selection and contact DeGraff to reserve your breeding of choice.

If there are futurity breedings available to any of these stallions in March, or any succeeding month, DeGraff will choose a different program each month until the futurities sell.  The information will be updated on their website at www.DeGraffStables.com in the “About” section and is titled; “Charities Sponsorship Program.”
