Small Georgia School Wins IHSA National Finals

Little Berry College of Rome, Georgia — just 10-15 students on the western team in any given year — captured the IHSA national western team title May 8 at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.

“It is amazing,” 14-year coach Margaret Knight says of her college’s first championship. “It’s better than I ever imagined. (The students) are hard-working, and I just give them all the credit.”

Berry relied on consistency, placing third or higher in every team class. It was paced by senior Alexandra Jones, who placed fourth or higher in every class she was entered in, including open team horsemanship, where she won the AQHA trophy that comes with the national title.
