Scott Myers hired as new OQHA Executive Director

The Ohio Quarter Horse Association has named Scott Myers of Sharon Center, Ohio as its new Executive Director after conducting a five-month nationwide search which reviewed 14 highly qualified candidates.
“I look forward to serving the Ohio Quarter Horse Association as the Executive Director,” said Dr. Scott Myers. “The Ohio Quarter Horse Association has a rich heritage and I will work to maintain OQHA’s prominence within the industry. The board of directors is united and focused on both promoting the American Quarter Horse within the state of Ohio and ensuring that our signature event, the All American Quarter Horse Congress, remains the most innovative and successful equine event in the world. I am honored and privileged to work with such a diversely talented and dedicated board of directors. This is a unique time for OQHA and I am excited about the opportunity to be part of the future success of this great association.”
Myers has been a member of the OQHA Board of Directors for 13 years, including holding the association’s highest office of president in 2007, 2008 and 2012. In addition to his service to OQHA, Myers is a National Director for the National Snaffle Bit Association and the American Quarter Horse Association.
“After reviewing numerous resumes and conducting several interviews, it became apparent that Dr. Scott Myers would be a great fit for this position,” said Elizabeth Gorski, chair of the OQHA Executive Vice President Search Committee. “From years of involvement in our association, he is very knowledgeable on all matters regarding OQHA and the Quarter Horse industry, and will be able to be productive in his new role immediately. Scott’s background as a veterinarian, and his show experience at the highest levels in our industry, give him a unique perspective to understand the needs of today’s exhibitor. In sum, Scott is articulate and very approachable, and will work hard to promote the interests of OQHA and the Congress. He earned the overwhelming support of the OQHA Board of Directors, and we look forward to many productive years with Dr. Myers as our Executive Director.”
Myers, his wife Leslie and two daughters, Taylor and Mallory, are all avid competitors on the Quarter Horse circuit, and their accomplishments are numerous, including five Congress champions and nine World Champion titles between them.
Aside from his involvement with the Quarter Horse industry, Myers has spent the last 22 years as the owner and manager of Hunting Ridge Animal Hospital. Myers also owns and operates Ridgewood Stables, a large Hunter/Jumper training facility.
Myers received a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from The Ohio State University in 1985. He practiced veterinary medicine, with a special interest in equine medicine, in Ohio for 24 years before moving to the management side of the practice. Myers earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Kentucky Wesleyan College in 1981.
The Ohio Quarter Horse Association is a state affiliate of the American Quarter Horse Association. Our mission is to promote the registered American Quarter Horse within the state of Ohio. The association works to meet this mission by encouraging the breeding and competition of Quarter Horses through many programs including an extensive year-end awards program, an Incentive Fund program, generous support of youth teams and scholarships. In addition, OQHA hosts the All American Quarter Horse Congress, the world’s largest single-breed horse show, each October in Columbus, Ohio.
