We  lost two old friends this winter: Ready Asset, “Ready”, at age 32 and Dudes Attraction,”Grey”, at age 32. They were ‘BFFs’… Best friends forever. In their older years, they watched out for each other as both of them were blind in one eye. Ready succumbed to old age on December 29, 2013. After that, Grey wouldn’t eat because she missed her friend. She gave up two weeks later on January 13, 2014. We LOVED our special mares and we will miss them.

Ready and Grey had wonderful show careers themselves. They both are AQHA Superior Western Pleasure horses. I, Ann, showed Ready Asset; she was the first genuine Western Pleasure horse that I had ever ridden. I could drape my reins when we showed, and Ready would maintain the same slow speed at every gait. It was like she was on automatic pilot. I felt like all I had to do was sit there and smile. With her natural ability she collected 75 Western Pleasure points. She was so much fun to ride!

Because Ready Asset was ours since she was two years old, she had the roll of being my show horse while, at the same time, she helped to raise our kids! I think my whole family has ridden her. She was that kind of horse…

Dudes Attraction was primarily shown by Misty Lovell. Misty shared, “Grey was a lot like me… hard headed and ornery. She was my partner. We won more than our fair share. I am so glad that she spent her golden years with Ann.” Grey and Misty were a team for seven years. Along with achieving AQHA Superiors in Open and Amateur Western Pleasure, they placed 8th in the nation in 1994 for AQHA’s High Point Amateur Western Pleasure. Grey earned a total of 404 points during her show career.

In her twenties, Dudes Attraction took on the job of teaching kids to ride. She was a favorite because she was patient and willing to try for her beginner riders.

Ready and Grey each have produced multiple Superior Performance offspring and Futurity Winners. To brag about a few…

The Cookie Baker (out of Ready Asset and by Zips Chocolate Chip) is a Two Time Congress Champion shown by Ellexxah Maxwell, becoming the youngest person to ever win at the Congress! They went on to win many Circuit Championships, four AQHA Superior Awards, an AQHA Championship, an AQHA Performance Championship, 3rd Place AQHA Youth Justin Rookie of the year 11 & Under, and much more.

Chips Cookie Dough (out of Dudes Attraction & by Zips Chocolate Chip) is a multiple Western Pleasure Futurity Champion. She is a Superior AQHA Amateur Western Pleasure Horse and has earned 28.5 AQHA Halter points, 149.5 AQHA Performance points, 56 Buckskin Performance points. She is also an AQHA Champion Producer.

Later in life, Ready and Grey retired to become our tried and true trail riding horses, taking care of us until they became too old. Since then, we have been taking care of them… They earned “The Good Life!”
