SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – TCU senior Katelyn Gray was crowned champion Sunday at the prestigious Sun Circuit Horsemanship Invitational.

“Katie represented TCU like the champion that she is today,” said TCU Director of Equestrian Haley Schoolfield. “She is a senior leader on our team and is as deserving of this win as anyone. We are very grateful to Jeff Abbott, the Sun Circuit and the owners who loaned their incredible horses to the competition.”

Gray, one of only eight collegiate riders chosen nationally and the lone representative from the Big 12 Conference, defeated Gabi Salamone of Arizona State in the finals, 72-71, to bring home first-place accolades.

Prior to the final round, the Colorado native dropped Rianna Storey of New Mexico State (73-66.5) and Hayley Mena Sacred Heart (72.5-72).

The Horned Frogs will return to the show ring Friday, Feb. 6 versus SMU. Competition will start in Springtown, beginning at 10:00 a.m. and conclude at the Fort Worth Stock Show at 6:30 p.m.
