Georgia Advances To NCEA Semifinals

The top-seeded Georgia equestrian team defeated Kansas State 10-5 to advance to the semifinal round of the 2015 NCEA National Championship. Georgia will face the No. 5 seed Auburn Tigers Saturday, April 18 at the Extraco Events Center in Waco, Texas. Competition is set to being at 8:30 am CT.
 
“I’m proud of this team,” said head coach Meghan Boenig. “We are glad to be moving on to the next round after a tough day of competition against Kansas State. We had some great rides today but there are also small details we need to improve on. We’re ready to fix those things and continue to compete for the national championship.”
 
The Bulldogs dropped a 3-1 decision to the Wildcats in Reining. Kara Guy and Jessica Johns picked up the first two points for Kansas State. Lauren Garmon put the lone point on the board for Georgia with a 132.5-132 decision over Brynn Critcher. Kansas State was able to secure the final point of the event with a winning ride from Savannah Smith.
 
Georgia evened the score with a 3-1 performance in Equitation on the Flat. Meg O’Mara set the pace with a 175-160 victory over Christina Martinelli. Kylee Arbuckle continued the momentum, defeating Henley Adkins 168-160. Liza Finsness took the third-straight point for the Bulldogs as she outscored Taylor Schmidt 166-149. The Wildcats picked up the final point of the event from Madison Wayda.
 
Georgia’s Horsemanship squad rode to a 3-0 decision. Paige Stawicki picked up the fist point with a 140-137 decision over Danielle Kemper. Sara Parr edged Alyssa Lombardi 144.5-144. Rachel Kolb then rode to a 139.5-point tie with Sydney Anson. Bailey Anderson sealed the event win for Georgia, defeating Kirsten Chamberland 142.5-140. Entering the final event of the day, the Bulldogs led the Wildcats 8-2.
 
A 3-1 victory in Equitation Over Fences sealed the win for the Bulldogs. Leylan Gleeson grabbed the first point after defeating Taylor Schmidt 168-163. Finsness picked up another point with a 162.5-146. Henley Adkins earned the lone point for the Wildcats before Meg O’Mara defeated Wayda 177-165.
