More than 500 horses were entered in the 50th running of the National Reining Horse Association Futurity.

It came down to two horses when Inferno Sixty Six and Shesouttayourleague tied December 5 in the open finals with matching scores of 224.

In 2014, tied scores meant two Futurity champions – Shine N Spook and ARC Gunnabeabigstar. This year, though, the horses’ owners agreed to run it off. Each horse had one more chance to impress the judges and the crowd.

Inferno Sixty Six competed first. The 2012 sorrel stallion is by Gunnatrashya and out of Snip O Gun by One Gun. He was bred by Hilldale Farm of Brashear, Texas, and is owned by Slide Or Die LLC of Aubrey, Texas.

His trainer is Franco Bertolani of Aubrey, and they ran in for Pattern 10 to deafening cheers and a score of 223.5 – just a half point below their original mark.

Then it was Shesouttayourleague’s turn with Casey Deary of Weatherford, Texas, in the saddle.

The score was a 224.t, making the palomino mare the Futurity winner.
