Roping action will be fast and furious with thousands of dollars on the line at the Arizona Quarter Horse Association’s 2016 Sun Circuit. DT Horses is sponsoring the first $20,000-added Team Roping Horse Futurity on January 8. The event includes a 5- and 6-year-old futurity and an open competition for horses 7 and up. Additionally, the Cinch Timed Event Challenge Roping returns with $5,000 added. That’s $25,000 in added money up for ropers.

More Money

There is no doubt about it: Everyone likes to pick up some cash at a horse show, and there is a lot of it to go around at Sun Circuit. More added money classes in 2016 include the $5,000 Legend High Score Trail Exhibitor, $2,500 Equine Sports Medicine High Score Western Riding Exhibitor and $2,500 Equine Sports Medicine High Score Western Pleasure Exhibitor. These amazing awards are all new for 2016.

The immensely popular Smart Boons Fence Work Challenge will return January 16 to the Markel Insurance Arena with a whopping $10,000 added to the open division sponsored by Smart Boons, Eric and Wendy Dunn and Cushing Performance Horses. Even if you do not have a horse in this challenge, you’ll want to join the crowd to watch some of the best cow horses and riders in the country. The non-pros will be chasing a $2,500-added pot sponsored by Brad Lund Performance Horses.

Rogers Heaven Sent Ranch will be sponsoring the $2,500-added Junior and Senior Bridle Spectaculars for horses competing in cutting and cow horse. Farnam picks up the reins, sponsoring the $2,000-added Amateur Bridle Spectacular, while Parkinson Performance Horses is adding $1,000 to the Amateur Boxing Spectacular.

Have a performance horse that can do it all? Bella Vista Ranch wants to recognize the best all-around cowboys with $1,000 awarded to the highest scoring amateur and open rider. Placings from reining, cutting, working cow horse, heading, heeling, tie-down roping, breakaway roping, ranch riding, and boxing will be tallied.

There will be $500 added each day in the National Snaffle Bit Association Green Hunter Under Saddle. Anyone planning on showing in the AQHA Green HUS will certainly want to also sign up for the NSBA class to be eligible for the cash. Additional NSBA added money classes include the $1,000-added NSBA 3-Year-Old Old Futurity, $500-added NSBA 3-Year-Old  Non Pro Futurity, $1,000added NSBA 3-Year-Old Hunter under Saddle and $250-added 3-Year-Old Non-Pro Hunter Under Saddle.

Junior ranch riding exhibitors can also try for some cash. Each of the four days will have $500 added.

To kick things off, on Friday, January 8, there will be a Bob Avila clinic open to everyone in the Markel Insurance Arena at  5p.m. Every year, Farnam comes with some grand giveaways for those in attendance! Other clinics are scheduled with Brad Barkemeyer, Leonard Berryhill, Corey Cushing, Debbie Cooper, Holly Hover and Gary Roberts.

Also on January 8, SmartPak is presenting a free trail clinic. Polish your trail patterns with Team SmartPak riders Charlie Cole, Jason Martin, Deanna Searles and Jim Searles. The ever-popular lunch and dinner parties are on the schedule as well. The Johns, Tobin and Searles families will be hosting the Annual Welcome Party. American Quarter Horse stallions Definitely All That/Indefinate, Machine Made and Mechanic will each be hosting a free lunch party for exhibitors during the show. These events are a great way to visit with their owners to see what these stallions offer the industry.
