The University of Findlay’s 12th Annual Spring Horse Sale is scheduled for Saturday, April 23 at the University’s Western Farm, 14700 U.S. Route 68 south of Findlay.

The University of Findlay’s Spring Horse Sale presents prospects through finished horses in an honest setting for potential horse owners. Buyers have the opportunity to interact with students and horses during the demonstration starting at 10 a.m. with the sale beginning at 12 p.m.

Approximately 60 horses, many trained under the guidance of the University’s renowned instructors will be offered. Many two year old western pleasure prospects, all-around horses, green reiners, ranch horses, hunters under saddle, and lesson horses are available.

Graduating seniors will hold a western pleasure class for their two-year-old futurity prospects on Friday, April 22, and then offer these horses at the sale on Saturday, April 23. Breaking and training the horses was part of the senior year curriculum for the western equestrian program. The equine marketing class is responsible for the marketing and coordination of the sale.

You Bet Shesa Flower will be offered in this year’s sale.

According to equine marketing instructor Kimberly LaComba, a majority of the proceeds will go toward scholarships and to purchase horses for equestrian students to work with the following school year. In 2015, the event provided approximately $40,000 toward scholarships to select UF equine students.

Last year, the highest-selling horse, Goodbar Had a Dream, sired by A Dream Remembered, sold for $17,500, which represents the second highest sale for the event; the record was set in 2013 at $21,000. The average sale price in 2015 was just over $4,300.
