The second day of futurity classes at the Little Futurity in Raleigh, North Carolina saw a full slate of futurity classes, highlighted by the NSBA Southern Oaks Three and Four Year Old $1,000 Novice Horse Western Pleasure Slot Class.

In a very nice set of 19 three and four year olds, it took a tiebreaker judge to determine who won the awards, but two horse and riders split the first place prize. Shane Pope won the tiebreaker, showing Vital Signs R Stable for Cathy Corrigan Frank, to the first place awards and $8,460. Tied with him was Casey Willis, showing KM WEKNOWSHESHOT for Masterson Farms, also earning $8,460.

“I’ve had her since she was a yearling,” Shane said of the four year old mare. “She was really small as a younger horse. Cathy was extremely patient and gave us the time we needed. We just showed her in Virginia in the maiden class for the first time. She has had more natural ability from Day 1 than any other horse I’ve trained. I just put the time on her – I never taught her anything!”

Finishing out the top ten placings in the class were:

  • Third – Lexus Made Lady, shown by Cody Parrish for Anchored Soul LLC, $6,080
  • Fourth – Ready Set Lope, Shannon Curl for Debby Brehm, $3,200
  • Fifth – Inviting Inthe Dark, Angie Cannizzaro for Randy Kimmel, $2,880
  • Sixth – Extremely Good Stuff, Kenny Lakins Jr. for Nancy Wilkerson Ditty, $2,560
  • Seventh – Moonlightin, Jeff Long for Liz Long
  • Eighth – My Daddys Lazy, Brian Baker for William and Sandy Stevenson
  • Ninth – The Born Legacy, Maggie Grandquist for Chavez Enterprises Inc.
  • Tenth – Make It Rain, Dawn Baker for April Wooster
