The 50th Running of the National Reining Horse Futurity Begins

NRHA logoOklahoma City, Okla., November 26, 2015 – The 2015 National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Futurity held its first day of competition on Thursday including the first go, first section of more than $500,000 added Open Futurity, plus ancillary classes for open riders.
 
The highest score of today’s section came earlier in the day when NRHA Professional Thiago Boechat rode a bay stallion Xtra Woodoo Doc owned by Roger D. Parks to a score of 220.5. Boechat reached the top score of the day only two runs after another NRHA Professional Matt Mills scored a 219.5 with a sorrel stallion Shooting For Chics for owner Kalicia B. Walters. The third highest score came at the end of the day when Billy G. Williams received 218.5 with his own sorrel stallion Gunnafoolya.
 
In addition to the first go of the NRHA Futurity, the North American Affiliate Championship (NAAC) classes kicked off in the Adequan Championship Arena. There was a two-way tie in the NAAC Open class between Mark J. Rafacz with Better Not Rest (owner Mark Rafacz) and Matthew Noel Palmer with Smart Chic Katie (owner Mark Hurd), who both scored 218. The NAAC Intermediate Open Champion title went to Randall E. Dooley with Oscar Party (owner Gail H. Klapper) and a score of 215.5.
 
NRHA FuturityIn the ancillary classes, again Mathew Palmer took the win with Smart Chic Katie in the Open class and Randall Dooley with Oscar Party topped the Intermediate Open class. Mathew Palmer and Smart Chic Katie also won the USA Reining Open class.
